Swimming Levels Explained: Where Does Your Child Fit?

One of the most common questions we get from parents: "My child can swim a little — which level should they join?"

Here's a clear breakdown of our three levels.

Beginner

Who it's for: Children with little or no pool experience. May be nervous or uncomfortable in water.

What we cover:

  • Water confidence and breath control
  • Floating on front and back
  • Basic kicking and arm movement
  • Jumping into shallow water safely

Goal: Your child leaves this level comfortable in the water and able to float independently.

Intermediate

Who it's for: Children who can float and move through the water but haven't yet developed consistent strokes.

What we cover:

  • Freestyle (front crawl) with proper breathing technique
  • Backstroke
  • Streamlined push-offs and basic turns

Goal: Your child can swim 25 metres continuously in both freestyle and backstroke.

Advanced

Who it's for: Confident swimmers ready to refine technique and build endurance.

What we cover:

  • Breaststroke and butterfly
  • Flip turns and open turns
  • Interval training and lap endurance
  • Stroke correction and efficiency

Goal: Your child can swim all four strokes with correct form and complete a 100-metre set.
